In the high-elevation burn zone, a snag stands as a sentinel — its stripped arms reaching sideways into fog that has swallowed the world behind it, leaving only the dry grass at its feet and ghost-trees dissolving at the edges of visibility. This is what forest fire and time make of permanence: a monument to having once been alive, standing anyway.
