In the decisive-moment tradition, the child does not illustrate the landscape — the landscape illustrates the child: an entire world of fog and gold and still water held inside a single small figure who does not yet know how large it is. Shot in autumn rain, rendered on warm-color negative film to honor the tension between the gold of the aspens and the grey of the water and sky.
